Young Black Scholars Institute

Young Black Scholars Institute, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to enhancing African American males' lives while developing leadership and academic skills through mentoring, community engagement, and change-maker opportunities.

The Young Black Scholars Institute, Inc. (YBSI) mentors’ youth between the ages of 13 to 18.  This age range is one of the most challenging phases of a child’s maturation process. We are also an organization working to improve the quality of life for residents living in Brooklyn, Brooklyn Park, Curtis Bay, and Anne Arundel County.

Our Mission

Young Black Scholars Institute's mission is to develop young males in leadership, respect, behavior, positive self-image, and academics. Our scholars will be trained to develop positive character traits and communication skills and embrace cultural diversity, promoting good decision-making to become strong young scholars.

YBSI collaborates with local schools' counselors, career readiness personnel, and local organizations to ensure a concrete path and access for our scholars to be college and career ready by grade 12.

Our Vision

Young Scholars will always lead by example and improve social and academic performance. Also, improved feelings of scholastic competence and confidence in areas of math language, arts, social and emotional learning. Lastly, improved relations with peers, teachers, school personnel and community.
